Global Market Series: Import Certificate Program

This 9-part series covers the main steps in the import process with a strong emphasis on compliance and is targeted toward new or active importers, managers in the fields of compliance, logistics, supply chain, and purchasing, as well as those wanting to enter into an international business related field. To accommodate participants in and outside of the DFW area, the series is offered in person at the BJP Institute or live via webinar. Participants who complete the entire series and all series requirements will receive a certificate from the CSCMP-Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. ALL registrations must be received by Thursday, September 6th at midnight central time. ALL credit cards will begin being processed one week before the seminar begins (Tuesday, September 4th). Participants will receive links to series materials by Friday, September 7th. •We reserve the right to adjust seminar schedule as necessary. •Must complete the entire series for certification.

Day 1 Session 3: International Sourcing and Purchasing September 11 • Establish a decision making process to compare outsourcing options.
Day 2 Session 4: U.S. Customs and Border Protection September 18 • Overview of the Import process from the small business perspective • Introduction to U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements and procedures to import • Harmonized Tariff Schedule, product classification, and duty valuation process • Uncover CBP process involving other government agencies
Day 2 Session 5: Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance September 18 • Agreements and forms used in an import purchase transaction. • “Mod Act” and non-compliance penalties. • Regulatory and recordkeeping requirements addressed. • C-TPAT • 10+2
Day 3 Session 6: Import Process, Receipt of Goods and FTZs September 18 • Determine if using an FTZ is best for your company or product
Day 3 Session 7: Understanding Transportation and Logistics September 25 • Distinguish the basics about the different modes of international freight. • Choosing a customs broker and/or freight forwarder. • INCOTERMS.
Day 3 Session 8: International Payment Procedures September 25 • Most common payment mechanisms • Letters of Credit and the cost vs. risk analysis.
Day 3 Session 9: Managing Cross-Cultural Communications September 25 • Explore how different cultural behaviors and negotiation tactics can impact your business • Import Process Summary.
