1. Do your research. Even though you are selling your product online, the product is still being shipped to a foreign country.  Meaning, the correct harmonize tariff number must be chosen and you must fully understand all rules/regulations that are associated with your product.

2. Decide how you will ship and fill out the correct forms.  This is where it gets a little tricky. Decided if you will be shipping the merchandise via the US Postal Service, FedEx, UPS, etc.  As a first step if selling on Ebay, read through the site’s information on how to sell internationally.  Then, follow-up with reading the sections on shipping.  There is an entire section devoted to the different shipping methods.  The forms for the US Postal Service are also included.

3. Make sure your business is catered to your online consumer.

Does your business clearly state who you are, what product(s) is being sold, and your consumer’s protections?

Do you have Fair Business, Advertising and Marketing Practices in place that are included on your website?

Click here to read how to make you business “consumer-friendly” for international e-commerce.

Finally, if you need a little more information, check out the article posted on the Custom and Border Protections website entitled “Internet Purchases”
